Artists of Hawaii Through the Ages

This four-part class will present a brief survey of some of the major artists and art trends of Hawaii, beginning with pre-contact ancient Hawaii and concluding with a selection of artists in our islands today. The class will relate eras of Hawaiian history with the noteworthy artists of their time.
The slide lectures will cover four main time periods:
1.  Ancient Hawaii- Indigenous arts
2. Kingdom era/ Volcano School of artists (mid 1800s)
3. Modernism and Mid-Century Masters (early 1900s)
4.  Contemporary Artists of Hawaii- today’s artists creating a fusion of traditional and modern art forms
