The Vice Presidency: A Historical Study and Analysis

ID : 1049

« back to classes page
This two-part Zoom slide lecture series examines the 49 men and one woman who have been ‘a heart-beat away’ from the Presidency. In the first session we will learn about the office of Vice President as an afterthought of the Founders, exhume the forgotten men of the nineteenth century, and consider those whom fate suddenly brought to power.

In the second session, we will look carefully at the growing importance of the office in recent administrations, starting with Walter Mondale, as the Vice Presidency has assumed greater prominence and influence.

This is intended as a historical review and analysis from a political science perspective, not as a forum for discussion of current political issues, except as they relate to the office and role of the Vice President.

A resource/reading list will be provided for those interested in learning more.
