The Cold War Revisited

In this 6-week course we will examine the roots and events of the Cold War. Why did solid WWII allies - the U.S. and the USSR- square off against one another? What were the driving forces of the two sides? How 'cold' was the Cold War (what about all those 'proxy wars')? To what extent did the conflict shape the world of the second half of the 20th C. and the world in which we live today? Is our 'common wisdom' about the Cold War accurate? 

Carol Zink is a retired high school history teacher and Navy Captain who teaches history courses for OLLI New Hampshire and OLLI Hawai?i on topics ranging from ancient and modern China, India, and Russia to European revolutions, fascism, and the Palestine-Israel conflict. She holds a BA in History from Northwestern University and an MBA from Santa Clara University and continues her studies through Stanford Continuing Education courses and seminars on history and geopolitics. Carol is also a grandmother of five, community volunteer, choral singer, college admissions advisor, and avid hiker, kayaker, swimmer, and cook. She has happily moved to Hawaii (for those grandkids) and will spend summers in New Hampshire.
