Campfire Poems is for fun.  I have recited many of these poems after candles were blown out in hiking cabins on Haleakala or Mauna Loa.  I love their sounds and stories.  Class volunteers will choose their poem, or portion of a longer poem, and recite the poem, not from memory, but with emotion.  Props are welcome.

We will discuss what makes these poems work, and I will give a short biography of each author.  My free booklet of all the poems will be emailed to class members. We will be on Zoom, but probably not whiteboards.  I want us watching the reciters and enjoying class members reactions.

Here are our likely poems, subject to change.  Jabberwocky, The Highwayman, The Cremation of Sam McGee, Ulysses, Kubla Khan, Casey at the Bat, Fuzzy Wuzzy (Kipling), Macavity the Mystery Cat, Casabianca, The Shooting of Dan McGrew, The Raven, Mandalay, The Charge of the Light Brigade, and Abdul Abulbul Amir.  I hope you can join us.

Dave Johnson is a lawyer who began teaching literature part-time about 50 years ago, starting with Shakespeare and later expanding to Homer, Virgil, Dante, and other plays and poetry in English.
