You might hear Australian music more often than you realize it’s Australian. This five-week course explores Australian music from Aboriginal chant and dance to Australians who have made their mark on the international stage—from classical music (Percy Grainger) and film (David Hirschfelder) to rock and pop (Bee Gees, AC/DC) and folk. We’ll explore how Australian music fits within broader traditions, including those of Europe and the United States. Participants will come away with fresh insights into familiar musical traditions by viewing them through an “Australian lens.” At the same time, it’ll be like a trip Downunder through sound.
