This course introduces novice hikers to a range of easy, accessible outings in more urban and cultivated settings, along with a few traditional hikes. Locations may include botanical gardens (e.g., Ho?omaluhia, Wahiaw?, Koko Crater), urban walks with historical context (such as Waik?k? Historic Trail, Kaka?ako, and Kamehameha Schools lands), and selected natural areas (e.g., Kawainui Marsh, Turtle Bay).
Participants will build confidence through manageable 3–4 hour hikes while becoming familiar with local environments. Before the course begins, participants will receive information on equipment, safety, directions, and what to expect for each outing. For safety and group cohesion, all hikers are expected to stay with the group.
