Jun 18: Laura (1944) The idealized woman as projection.
Jun 25: Gilda (1946) Persona vs. reality, performance and myth-making.
Jul 2: Shane (1953) Mythic individualism with moral weight.
Jul 9: Marty (1955) The anti-myth: ordinary life and longing.
Jul 16: Amadeus (1984) Musical genius and envy.
Jul 23: Kolya (1996) More music but intimate, redemptive, and unexpectedly paternal.
Jul 30: Juno (2008) A self-aware, searching protagonist.
Aug 6: Hugo (2011) Shows film itself as magic, memory, and restoration. Directed by Martin Scorsese primarily to create a family-friendly film for his young daughter at his wife’s suggestion.
