Great 20th Century Operas

Some people might regard the title of this course with skepticism, but actually there are many operas that fit this bill. This course will look at works like “Porgy and Bess” and Benjamin Britten’s “Peter Grimes” and of course operas by Puccini and Richard Strauss. Challenging works such as “Wozzeck” and “The Rake’s Progress” will be considered as also more recent works like “Nixon in China” and “Dead Man Walking”.
