Dan and Paul again team up to offer a two-part program of films for the Saturday Matinee crowd. Lists of and detailed information about the films will be sent out before the first class. Come join us to enjoy the selected films, as well the interesting discussions. We will typically finish by about 12:00 noon, unless a film is unusually long.
Part 1: Films We Loved
We will show films that pleased us enough to make them worth watching again and again. In other words, films we absolutely loved. The majority of the films will make you feel good, and a few will touch your heart. The films will include: Footloose (1984), My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002), and Galaxy Quest (1999).
Part 2: So You Wanna be in Pictures
The second half of the course explores Hollywood's glamour and struggles, delving into the allure and challenges of stardom through iconic films. These works reveal the pursuit of fame, capturing the emotional highs and lows of chasing dreams while exposing Hollywood's myths and realities. From the vibrant joy of Singin’ in the Rain (1952), to the sharp satire of Sunset Boulevard (1950) exposing Hollywood?s darker side, to the personal and professional chaos of filmmaking in Day for Night (1973), this course offers a diverse and engaging cinematic journey
