Stanley Kubrick is widely regarded as one of the greatest American film directors. From the 1960s through the 1980s, he created memorable films with such innovative technique that they are still studied today for his mastery of image and sound. Starting with an overview documentary, we will then review the last seven of Kubrick’s masterpieces, from Dr. Strangelove to Eyes Wide Shut, focusing on one film per session. Together, we will attempt a critical analysis of each film’s merits and limitations.
This class is designed as an interactive discussion rather than a lecture. Participants are expected to contribute thoughtful commentary to the group process. Think of it as a film club where everyone watches the movie before coming together to talk about it.
