The 20th century brought significant changes to Hawaii. This one-hour class explores four pivotal mid-century events that shaped those times: the plantation labor strikes of 1920, the Massey Case of 1931, the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941–42, and Hawaii’s statehood in 1959.
While many of these events are often remembered as straightforward stories, they were, in reality, complex and viewed differently by those who experienced them. Historic sites offer a unique window into these stories, helping us understand how people in Hawaii perceived and lived through these transformative moments.
